The Gravo assistant does not only generate parameters — it also answers questions. The General Question tab inside the Parameter Creator is a laser engraving specialist chat where you can ask any technical question without following the machine and material flow. It is the equivalent of having access to a laser expert who knows your context.
When to Use General Question
The parameter generation form is designed for the typical case: you know your machine, your material and you want a complete set of values. But there are situations where you need a more direct answer to a specific problem — and that is what General Question is for.
Some examples of when it is the right tool: you are engraving and unwanted parallel lines appear in the result — you do not want to generate parameters from scratch, you just want to understand what is causing that defect. Or you have a question about the difference between Stucki and Floyd-Steinberg image modes for your specific case. Or you want to know if air assist improves or harms engraving on real leather versus synthetic leather.
How to Phrase the Question
The text field accepts up to 2000 characters. The guide below the field reminds you that the more context you provide, the more precise the answer will be: describe the problem or question, the material you are engraving, the type and power of the laser you are using, the parameters you have tried and the result you are getting.
A well-phrased question sounds like this: "Why are parallel lines appearing in my engraving? I am using a diode laser at 60% power and 3000 mm/min on 3mm birch plywood." With that level of detail, the assistant can identify whether the problem is related to speed, resolution, focus or a specific characteristic of the material.
The Answer in the Right Panel
When you press Ask Question, the assistant processes your query and the answer appears in the Assistant's Response panel on the right. The answer is direct and technical — it explains the likely cause of the problem and what adjustments to make, or answers the theoretical question with the context of your specific case. It is not a generic FAQ answer: the assistant reasons about the data you provided.
Below the answer the Temporary Parameters history remains visible, allowing you to cross-reference the explanation with recent generations you have saved to see if the suggested adjustments match any of your previous results.
General Question complements the parameter generator: one gives you the complete configuration to start a job, the other helps you understand what happens when something does not come out as expected. Together they answer the two most frequent questions in laser engraving: what parameters do I start with, and why is it coming out like this?
